Q: How do I contact VAIX Network Operations?
A: Email redacted@vaix.ca. If there is a network emergency call 604 687 xxxx.
Q: Where is the VAIX located?
A: The VAIX is located in the 6B Meet-Me-Room in Harbour Centre, Vancouver, British Columbia.
Q: Where do I go for an IPv4 address allocation?
A: https://www.ep.net/ipadd-req.html - Enter "VAIX" as the exchange point. In a number of days you will receive an address from 198.32.230.0/24 via email.
Q: How about an IPv6 address?
A: There is currently no IPv6 space assigned to the VAIX.
Q: What connection types and speeds are available?
A: You can connect via copper or fiber. Available speeds are 10Mbps, 100Mbps, or 1Gbps. At the gigabit level you will need to provide a suitable GBIC that matches your connection type. Because we have fewer gigabit ports than 10/100 ports, you should only connect at gigabit speeds if your expected usage exceeds roughly 60Mbps.
Q: What is the cost of connecting to the VAIX?
A: At this time connecting to the VAIX does not cost anything. We are relying on the contributions and support of members to maintain the VAIX. However, building management or your co-location provider will likely charge you for the cost of labour and materials for running a circuit to the VAIX.
Q: What are the rules?
A: Please refer to our rules page.
Q: What is the organizational structure of the VAIX?
A: Voting members determine the future of the VAIX.
